Features and Pricing on Honda’s New 2009 Accord

Honda’s new 2009 Accord will be a sleeker and more elegant version of the 2007 and 2008 models. A perennial favorite for the American family, Honda is hoping to up the ante by adding more luxury to it’s bread and butter line. Facing upcoming competition from Toyota, with their Lexus rivalling Avalon line as well as the teen inspiring Scion brand, Honda might be beginning to feel the squeeze.

Features that the new 2009 Accord will have include:

  • Wider doors for ease of entry and exit (I guess we’re getting fatter on this side of the Ocean)
  • 271 horse power V6 engine
  • Variable Cylinder Management (they call is VCM) to boost MPG
  • Standard 5-speed or manual transmission
  • New, curved body style

Pricing starts at $20,755 MSRP for the base model of four wheels and an engine. Most buyers will probably go for the EX and above models, which start at $23,455 and include amenities asuch as driver seat adjustment, power everything, cruise control, MP3 sound system,  front/side airbags, ABS, moonroof and the 190hp V4. The EX V6 starts at $26,455, for those who like a bit more pep in the pedal.

Dealer mark-up for the Seattle market is usually $2k – $5k over MSRP. That means you can expect dealerships to have a total price of around $33k for the 2009 Accord EX models, when delivery, taxes and charges are all factored in. Of course, only the novice buyer would pay sticker price for the car, so be sure to come back for our upcoming new car negotiation guide, where we’ll teach you all the tricks to take the pain out of negotiating.

Some will say that even with a discount, the Accord may be pricey for America’s family car, but given the reliability of Honda (knock on wood) and it’s overall gas efficiency (EPA 31 MPG highway), it still makes for a sensible buy.
